Aug 11, 2017

Two people died and two others were injured when an SUV crashed into Calloways Restaurant and Bar in Eagleswood at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, according to Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Al Della Fave.

According to authorities, Patty Rulon, 54, of Manahawkin, was driving the 2009 GMC Acadia northbound on Route 9 when she lost consciousness and control of the vehicle, which accelerated across the southbound lane of Route 9, went up an embankment and slammed into the southeast corner of the restaurant, resulting in substantial front-end damage to the vehicle. Rulon was pronounced dead at the scene, Della Fave said in an updated statement released Friday, Aug. 11.

Albert Rulon, 91, of Tuckerton, sustained multiple injuries and was flown to AtlantiCare Medical Center, but died while in transit, Della Fave said. The driver’s 15-year-old son, whose name was not released, sustained several injuries and was flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where he remained in stable condition as of Aug. 11. Another passenger, 44-year-old Juliette Adomaa, Albert Tulon’s caregiver who “was partially ejected from the back seat,” suffered head and shoulder injuries and also was hospitalized. She, too, was in stable condition as of Aug. 11, Della Fave said.

According to authorities, nobody inside the restaurant was hurt. Della Fave said “there was nothing to indicate anything criminal regarding this case.”  —D.B.
