Spring Art  Show: A reception for the Pine Shores Art Association’s annual Spring Show is Sunday, May 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. The Manahawkin gallery, at 94 Stafford Ave., is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m. Admission is free. The Spring Show remains until May 29.

The monthly meeting is held in the gallery on Monday, May 7, at 7 p.m.; artist Pat Morgan demonstrates painting floral watercolors. The public is welcome.

“Do Your Own Pastels” session is held Tuesdays, 7 to 9 p.m. Ongoing portrait sessions are open to all artists for a nominal model fee on Sunday, 1 to 3 p.m., and Monday, 7 to 9 p.m. On Thursday is life drawing (undraped model) from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. is a “do your own thing” session; artists meet and create their own work. Afterward is “Artists Helping Artists” from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.; drop in with your supplies for some friendly assistance.

Faculty Show: A group show from the Montclair State University’s Art and Design Faculty, “Art as Practice,” is on view May 4 to 27 at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences with a free reception planned for Saturday, May 19, at 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. The exhibition of 21 faculty artists and designers will feature more than 60 works of art and will encompass a wide variety of mediums, including drawing, illustration, painting, video, sculpture, engravings, techtronics, photography, ceramics and printmaking.

Weekly Saturday Drop-In Ceramics with Dallas Koenig continues, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Learn to make ceramics or practice your skill for a fee of $35, or paint fired bisque-ware for a fee of $15 plus cost of piece.

High Bar Harbor artist Linda Ramsay welcomes artists to drop in and paint on alternate Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for a $25 fee. The next sessions are May 8 and 22. Register at the LBIF desk. Easels and glass palettes are provided.

In the Libraries: Tuckerton artist Jill DeFelice is exhibiting 30 new paintings at the Little Egg Harbor branch of the Ocean County Library through May. A free artist reception is planned for Wednesday, May 9, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Art Chat at the Tuckerton Library is Thursday, May 3 and May 22, at 10 a.m. Artists bring work for friendly critique. Admission is free.

Photographs by George Rahn and Rita Allen are at the Little Egg Harbor branch.

The Barnegat branch is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and the library staff are displaying their own artwork.

Artist June Merrifield will demonstrate watercolor painting at the Stafford branch on Thursday, May 3, at 10:30 a.m. Registration is requested.

Life Drawing: Join other local artists for life drawing sessions at the Old Baptist Church in Manahawkin on Sundays, May 6 and 20, from 10 a.m. to noon. Study the undraped figure in a historic setting, with plenty of natural light and a creative and experienced fine art model. No instruction is offered; bring your own art supplies.

There will be a model fee collection.

Seniors Wanted: The 42nd annual Ocean County Senior Art Exhibit is looking for entries. Professional and nonprofessional artists, 60 years of age or older, who are residents of Ocean County are eligible to submit artwork in one of 11 categories. Artwork will be received only on Wednesday, June 6, between 9 a.m. and noon in the lobby of the Grunin Center for the Arts (Building #12) on the Ocean County College Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River. Use Parking Lot #2.

Each artist may submit only one entry. Artwork must be original work by the exhibiting artist, created within the past three years, and not entered in prior County Senior Art Shows or in the New Jersey State Senior Art Show. Reproduction of the artist’s work including giclée or other digital copies of original paintings or mixed media work will not be accepted.

Artist Opportunities: The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences in Loveladies offers an opportunity to exhibit in a national juried competition.

The 20th annual “Works on Paper” 2018 can include but is not limited to drawing, painting on paper, hand-pulled prints, photographic prints, digital works on paper, and paper constructions that can be wall hung. Deadline is May 5. The juror is Kim Conaty, curator of drawings and prints for the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Painted Poetry V: For the fifth year, an exhibit of 32 paintings and 32 poems will be on exhibit at the Surf City Library this August.
