Throughout the summer, Murphy’s Market in Beach Haven will be raising money for the Ronald McDonald House South Jersey. Located next to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, the house provides “home away from home” to families of seriously or chronically ill or injured children who are being treated at area hospitals.

“It’s a place where families can stay together and receive the kind of special care they need at such difficult times,” said Rhonda Kraut, Murphy’s assistant manager. “It helps families find some bit of comfort and peace after spending so much time at the hospital.”

Kraut said Ronald McDonald stopped by Murphy’s on June 17 for a meet-and-greet to kick off the fundraising effort.

“We had a really good turnout,” she said. “We hope throughout the summer, our shoppers will help us in helping this charity.”

She said customers can purchase shamrocks for either $1, $3 or $5.

“The donor can write his or her name, and the shamrocks will be displayed on the wall,” said Kraut.

In addition, stuffed Blarney dolls are for sale at $10 each.

For three weeks last March, the Murphy’s locations in Tabernacle and Medford Lakes raised a total of $10,000 for Ronald McDonald House, said human resource manager Denise Lucas.

“At that time of year business is a little slower at the Beach Haven location,” said Lucas. “But now with all the summer visitors coming, this is a great time for this fundraising effort.”

Murphy’s is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (until 11 Friday and Saturday). For more information, call the store at 609-492-5100. E.E.
