Music on the Beach in Long Beach Township

Jul 31, 2017

The fabric of all great beach communities is held together by two equally important facets that are linked but separate: First, spending hours by the ocean, propped up on a beach chair, digging in the sand or rolling around in the surf; then, after just a little too much sun or saltwater in the sinuses, heading back to the house to get ready to go see one of the live bands rocking out at any number of bars, clubs or outdoor parks.

This summer, Long Beach Township and TD Bank have combined everyone’s favorite parts of the shore to bring The Acoustic Summer Music Series every Sunday to the 68th street beach. Now, two of the best aspects of summer in a beach community have morphed together to create an unforgettable experience for beachgoers on Long Beach Island.

The acoustic opener varies from week to week and is usually a young local talent who plays from noon to 1. Then, from 1 to 3, one of the Jersey Shore’s most beloved bands, Facedown, takes the stage, sometimes accompanied by special guest performers.

According to LBT Recreation Director Joni Bakum, the series has been a huge success with a growing crowd coming out for the music every week. Public acceptance of the series has been overwhelming, and officials hope to continue doing it, she added.
