Necessary Project

Oct 18, 2017

To the Editor

I was stunned and outraged to learn of the failure of the LBI schools referendum concerning the remodeling and expansion of Ethel Jacobsen School. It was shocking to realize that the voters would begrudge the small amount of money assessed per capita for this extremely necessary project.

As a grandmother of three boys, two of whom attended and have graduated from LBI schools, and of one grandson who presently attends E.J., I am extremely concerned. The overcrowding that would result from combining the two schools without an extension would very negatively impact the educational environment at Ethel Jacobsen.

I call for solidarity in support of the children who attend our schools. We need to sell the LBI School property and use the proceeds for the E.J. project and raise the remaining amount from voters. With these funds we can move forward with updating E.J. and constructing an adequate extension to house the students from the LBI School.

It’s the right thing to do!
