New Anticipated Dates for Barnegat Avenue Road Work in Surf City

Mar 21, 2018

Effects of winter storms Quinn and Riley earlier this month included more than flooding, debris in the roadways, blown-over trash bins, and an accidental sandbar. In Surf City, it suspended much-needed road work on three phases of improving Barnegat Avenue.

At the Surf City Borough Council’s monthly meeting March 14, Councilwoman Jacqueline Siciliano said phases three and four had begun and are expected to run through the middle of May. Mobilization and complete drainage installation, a four-week project, began March 14 with an expected end date of April 11, depending on the impact of this week’s anticipated storm. Curb installation is currently slated to begin April 11, she said, and run through May 2. Road work and repaving are a two-week project expected to start the week of May 2, and run through May 16, she said. All of the work is being performed by CJ Hesse, general contractors specializing in highway construction.

The fifth phase, which is being performed by Earle Construction, includes drainage work, and that is expected to begin this week, according to Siciliano. The work, if this week’s weather doesn’t interrupt it, is expected to last until March 29, she said. Concrete work is a two-day project that is expected to start April 5 and be completed April 6 with milling beginning April 9 and finishing April 11, Siciliano reported . Paving is currently slated for April 23-24 with striping taking place April 27, she said.

All of the work is anticipated to occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the week, according to Siciliano. —G.G.S.
