New Garden Center Offering Holiday Specialties in Barnegat

Nov 15, 2017

After being in the glass business for some 35 years, a Barnegat Township couple are opening up a garden center in town, at 398 North Main St. (Route 9). It will be known as The Garden Market, and while it will be fully open by late March, they will be selling Christmas trees and other holiday items at the former site of A’s Garden Center.

“There have been garden businesses there for a long time, so there won’t be a lot of changes needed,” said Claudia Ernest, whose husband, Frank, owns Shower Door Gallery in Manahawkin.

Frank Ernest said that he and his wife had been looking into starting a seasonal business.

“When this property became available, we jumped at the chance,” he said. “My wife has enjoyed gardening as a hobby, so now we’re taking the next step and turning a hobby into a business.”

Claudia said the Christmas tree lot will be opening on Friday, Nov. 24. On weekdays, it will be operating from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on weekends, hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“We’ll probably be open right up until Christmas,”  she said. “Aside from trees, we’ll also have grave blankets and a variety of wreaths.”

Claudia said that having the holiday sale will give her and her husband a chance to “introduce ourselves to the community.”

“I have my roots in Barnegat,” she said. “I love this town and am happy to be able to serve our residents.”

She said once the sale is over, work will begin on getting The Garden Market ready for spring.

“I hope a lot of the people who come to our Christmas tree lot will come back and visit us in the spring,” said Claudia. “We plan to meet all your gardening needs.”
