New Positions Divvy Up Administrative Duties in Ship Bottom

Aug 01, 2018

The Ship Bottom Borough Council last month unanimously introduced a measure that would create two separate administrative positions in the event of a vacancy in the position of borough administrator.

In the spring, the council agreed to a separation package with Administrator Mark Pino, who was not present at the April 24 meeting. Details of the agreement were not discussed in public session, but the council did briefly adjourn the open meeting for an executive session. Whether Pino was the topic during the short executive session remains unknown since matters involving personnel are made public only after an issue has been resolved. Pino assumed administrator duties for the borough in December 2016.

In July, Councilman Robert Butkus made the motion to introduce, by title only, Ordinance 2018-10, calling it a good measure. A second reading on the ordinance is expected at the council’s August meeting.

The proposed ordinance creates the positions of borough coordinator and office manager. The positions would be filled only if there is no borough administrator on staff.

“The duties of Administrator shall be allocated to the positions of Borough Coordinator and Office Manager pursuant to resolution adopted by the governing body,” the proposed measure reads. “Each of these positions shall serve at the pleasure of the governing body.” —G.G.S.
