Barnegat Leader

Newcomer Gets Highest Votes in Barnegat School Board Election

Nov 16, 2018

An incumbent, a former board member and a newcomer won three three-year terms on the Barnegat Township Board of Education Nov. 6. Newcomer Michael Hickey led all vote-getters with 4,343. David Sherman, a board member since 2013, was next with 4,291. Lauren Sarno, a former board president and wife of current board president Scott Sarno, received 4,255. The three ran as a team.

Richard Quelch, who also ran unsuccessfully last year, received 2,955 votes.

“I think the key was having two people on the ticket who were on the board,” said Hickey. “Running with them was a great experience, as I learned a lot about what being a board member involves, and I’m ready to go to work.”

Linda Kropf, who was elected to the township committee (see separate story), did not seek re-election; nor did another incumbent, Andrew Watts. —E.E.
