NJ Native Joins Final Field for 2018 ShopRite LPGA Classic This Week

Jun 06, 2018

Former New Jersey state champion golfer Taylor Totland is making her professional debut this week at the 2018 ShopRite LPGA Classic. Totland, of Tinton Falls, received the final sponsor exemption into the tournament, held June 4–10 at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in nearby Galloway Township.

Totland was a New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association state champion while at Red Bank Catholic and a two-time New Jersey State Golf Association women’s amateur champion, as well as Southern Conference Player of the Year, honorable mention All-American and Female Athlete of the Year at Furman University. She currently competes as a professional on the Symetra Tour.

Meanwhile, Marina Alex, a native of Wayne, is the only New Jersey native on the LPGA this year with full-time playing status.

Totland and Alex join 142 of the world’s best female golfers to compete for a $1.75 million prize fund, the largest purse in tournament history.

“Taylor is a talented and hard working golfer and we’re excited to offer her an opportunity to compete against some of the best players in the world,” said Tim Erensen, executive director of the ShopRite LPGA Classic. “Our fans travel from every corner of the state and we’re excited they’ll be able to cheer on two Jersey natives.”

This year’s field will also feature past champions IK Kim, Anna Nordqvist, Stacy Lewis and Karrie Webb, and five of the top 10 players, including No. 2-ranked Shanshan Feng. Also competing are eight of the last 11 major winners – such as Pernilla Lindberg, Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson and In Gee Chun – and fan favorites like Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, Natalie Gulbis, Suzann Pettersen and Christina Kim.
