Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Seeking Re-accreditation

Feb 13, 2019

A team of assessors from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police has begun a review of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office’s practices and procedures as it seeks re-accreditation. Prosecutor Bradley Bilhimer Jr. said the status provides objective evidence of the agency’s commitment to excellence in leadership, resource management and service delivery. Assessors will review policies and procedures, examine files, conduct interviews of staff members and inspect facilities.

The accreditation program director for the NJSACOP is Harry J. Delgado, who said the assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar New Jersey law enforcement agencies.

“The assessors will review written materials, interview agency members, and visit offices and other places where compliance with the standards can be observed,” he said. “Once the commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report to the full commission, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status.”

Accreditation is valid for a three-year period during which time the agency must submit annual reports attesting to its continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited. The agency was first accredited in 2013 and again in 2016.

“We welcome the team of assessors to ensure that the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is employing best practices in its commitment to the pursuit of justice and excellence in law enforcement,” said Bilhimer. “While accreditation is voluntary, we embrace this process because it promotes greater accountability, reduced exposure to civil lawsuits, and enhanced public confidence in our ability to operate in a just and efficient manner. Accreditation is a vital tool for any law enforcement agency and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is no exception.”
