October Is ‘Buy in Barnegat’ Month

Oct 09, 2017

Barnegat Township residents who shop locally will be able to reap savings in October, the second “Buy in Barnegat” month of the year. The initiative aimed at supporting Barnegat businesses is also held in May.

People can go to the township clerk’s office and pick up a special card free of charge, which would make them eligible for discounts usually in the 10 to 15 percent range.

“If you picked up a card in May, you can still use that for October,” said Township Clerk Michele Rivers.

Rivers said a list of more than 15 participating businesses can be found on the townsnhop website, http://barnegat.net.

“They have ‘Buy in Barnegat’ signs displayed at the front of their places to show to shoppers that they are part of the program,” she said.

The list include restaurants, florist/garden shops, antique stores and various specialty stores.

“Discounts vary because it depends how much stores can afford to mark items down,” said Mayor Albert Bille. “The whole idea is to keep Barnegat dollars in Barnegat.”

Bille added that shoppers don’t have to be a Barnegat resident to participate.

“For example, if you have a family member or a close friend living in Manahawkin, you could  pick one up for him or her,” he said.
