Off-Season Property Watch Available in Harvey Cedars

Sep 27, 2017

The Harvey Cedars Police Department invites residents to participate in an off-season home security program running now through the beginning of Memorial Day weekend. Police Chief Robert Burnaford said homeowners who sign up will have their properties routinely checked by officers.

“For example, they can look to see if the home had any sign of forced entry, or if any water pipes burst,” said Burnaford. “The homeowner will leave contact information so that officers can reach them in case there are any problems or emergencies.”

According to Borough Clerk Daina Dale, only 30 percent of the borough’s 1,200 properties are occupied year ’round.

“This isn’t only for people going away for the winter,” said Burnaford. “You might have residents going away on vacation for one or two weeks. They’re welcome to participate.”

Burnaford said interested people can sign up by logging onto the department’s website, hcpolice.org, or calling 609-494-6509. E.E.
