Offseason Surf City Road Work Improving Barnegat Avenue

Feb 28, 2018

Road improvement work on Barnegat Avenue in Surf City will continue into April, according to officials.

The third and fourth phases of the project, which runs from Fifth to 11th streets, began Monday with the mobilization and includes complete drainage installation, Councilwoman Jacqueline Siciliano said. That work is slated to take approximately four weeks, ending March 23.

Curb installation for that project will take roughly three weeks beginning March 26 and ending April 13, she said. The final phase is roadwork and paving, Siciliano said. That work is expected to last two weeks, beginning April 16 and ending April 27. All of the dates, she cautioned, are weather dependent. C.J. Hesse Inc., general contractors specializing in highway construction, is performing the work.

Meanwhile, phase five of the Barnegat Avenue road improvement project is underway now, Siciliano said. Drainage work from Fifth to Third streets began a week ago and is expected to last another seven days. Then come three days for concrete curbing, a day to mill the road – which lands the borough a recycling credit – and two days to pave, she said. Earle Construction is handling the contract for this phase.

All of the work is anticipated to occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the week, according to Siciliano.  —G.G.S.
