Paddling the Blvd.

To the Editor:

At about 9 p.m. on Nov. 9 my family and I were driving onto the Island and discovered that the Boulevard was flooded due to the rain the day before.

We had to drive on the beach road and saw other cars driving around an object on the street. We stopped to look at it. It was a paddleboard missing a fin and a fin box. We picked it up, threw it in the back of our minivan and drove home with it.

There was an issue, though, because the intersection between our house in Brighton Beach and the beach road was flooded and we didn’t think we could make it through without flooding the inside of the car. So I took the paddleboard and I got my bag and paddled across the Boulevard, acting like a water taxi taking gear and transporting it across the Boulevard.

The funniest part of all this was when people began taking pictures and the policeman helping people cross the street a few blocks down saw me and started laughing.

After all our luggage was transported across the Boulevard, I decided to paddleboard around the whole flooded block. The looks on people’s faces were the greatest. They probably were not expecting to see a 15-year-old kid paddleboarding on the Boulevard at night.
