Several weeks ago, Manahawkin residents Greg and Maryann Levine each sustained numerous injuries during a motor vehicle accident. Now, the community is rallying to help ease some of the extraordinary financial burden the family is experiencing and is expected to endure in the years to come.

On Saturday, Feb. 16, a fundraising pasta dinner to benefit the Levines is scheduled from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at the Stafford Township firehouse, 133 Stafford Ave., Manahawkin. Two sittings have been scheduled – the first from 5 to 7 p.m. and the second from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The menu will feature spaghetti, salad, bread, beverage and dessert. The cost per ticket is $25.

The fundraiser is sponsored by the Southern Regional Football Parents Association. Food is being donated by Pietro’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria, and the band Off the Hook is scheduled to perform. Seating is limited. Tickets are available by texting (preferred) or calling 609-812-2583.

According to a GoFundMe page recently set up, the accident caused Greg “significant back injuries which exacerbated a prior back injury and surgery.” However, Maryann sustained “life-altering injuries. “She suffered a collapsed lung, multiple broken ribs, spinal fractures, and, sadly, Maryann suffered a devastating traumatic injury and had to undergo a bilateral amputation of both legs.” The Levine children, Sarah and Michael, both graduated from Southern Regional High School, and Michael recently completed his freshman football season at Susquehanna University.

Additional efforts to raise funds will be ongoing.
