Pinelands Football Team Runs Over Manchester

Oct 25, 2017

The Pinelands Regional High School football team got back on the winning track last Friday, defeating Manchester, 42-34, to improve its record to 2-4.

As usual, the Wildcats relied on a running game, racking up 454 yards on the ground with none in the air. Junior Evan Burton led the way with 189 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carriers while senior Brennan Richardson scampered for 171 yards and two TDs on nine touches. Sophomore Andrew Bartlett scored the other Pinelands TD and gained 10 yards on three carries; freshman Nik Dileo carried the ball nine times for 43 yards.

A key to the game was the Wildcats going four out of six in third down situations while holding the Hawks to three out of nine in that department.

Pinelands stands an excellent chance of going on a late season roll with its ground game now firing on all cylinders. The ’Cats will host a 1-6 Jackson Liberty team this Friday night at 7 p.m., having a little extra incentive considering it is their homecoming game. On Nov. 4 Pinelands will visit Lakewood to play the 2-4 Piners.  —R.M.
