Pinelands Regional, Little Egg Harbor Schools to Share Business Administrator

Nov 28, 2018

It’s tough keeping up with the change of school business administrators in Southern Ocean County these days.

On Sept. 11, the Stafford Township Board of Education unanimously hired Lourdes LaGuardia to be its business administrator, replacing Dan Smith. LaGuardia had filled a similar position for the Barnegat Township School District since 2006. Her departure left an opening in Barnegat.

Now that position has been filled by Stephen Brennan (see separate story this issue). That leaves the Pinelands Regional School District, where Brennan had served as both business administrator and board secretary for 11 years, with a vacancy.

Brennan had been awarded a new $144,848 contract at Pinelands on Oct. 10. But accepting Barnegat’s offer, he submitted a letter of resignation to Pinelands Superintendent of Schools Melissa McCooley on Oct. 16.

McCooley has said Brennan’s departure provides an opportunity to hire a new business administrator under a shared-service agreement. It was expected that such an agreement would be signed by both the Pinelands Regional and Little Egg Harbor Township school districts in October, but there were delays in preparing the contract, she said.

What’s more, Brennan’s departure also leaves a vacancy at the tiny Bass River Township School District, which already had a shared-service agreement with Pinelands, paying Brennan $19,000 annually. So the eventual business administrator at Pinelands might be serving three school districts. —R.M.
