Plastic Education

Jul 18, 2018
Here is The SandPaper’s public service announcement, prompted by the writer’s call for action.

To the Editor:

I am a Star Scout with Troop 173 in Parsippany and I was a junior lifeguard in Beach Haven this summer. I am writing to express my concerns about garbage that is impacting the ecosystem of the oceans.

This summer the topic of plastic and waste has been brought up more than other years. I am happy to see this in the news. As a junior lifeguard, I have seen the plastic and waste that is in the water and on the beach. I feel we need to do more to educate residents and visitors of the Island to start being more conservative in their plastic use.

It would be nice to see a recurring public service announcement in the paper about ways visitors can help fix this problem. Thank you for considering this.
