Poetry Workshop at Beach Haven Library Oct. 19

Oct 09, 2017

Published poet Richard Morgan will conduct a poetry writing workshop on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Beach Haven Public Library on Thursday, Oct. 19. A retired college administrator, Morgan is the author of the I Am Sea Glass trilogy and Hebrew Lessons: Poems From My Jewish Heart. He also coordinates the poet’s studio, which meets on the first Thursday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Long Beach Island branch of the Ocean County Library in Surf City.

Morgan said he would stick to the basics of poetry, in that it is more important to first get your feelings on paper and then later figure out the structure.

“Don’t worry about rhyming right away,” he said.

Morgan, who will also read from his works, said he encourages people to write because “I believe there is poetry in everyone.”

“Some people may say that they can’t write poetry,” he said. “But you’d be surprised what can happen once you express your thoughts and emotions on paper.”
