Police Charge Little Egg Harbor Man for Assault With Skateboard

A 29-year-old man was found lying in the parking lot of the Harbor Island Shopping Plaza in Little Egg Harbor on Sunday, June 25, around 10:15 at night. Police responded to find he had been attacked and beaten repeatedly in the head with a skateboard allegedly wielded by 18-year-old Brian Cooper, also of Little Egg Harbor.

Great Bay Regional Ambulance Service responded to the scene, and due to the severity of the injuries, the man was flown via helicopter to AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

Witnesses helped police identify the suspect, who was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. Cooper was lodged in the Ocean County Jail.

As of Monday, June 26, the injured man remained in stable but critical condition. The incident is still under investigation. —P.J.
