Project Proposal

Jan 16, 2019

To the Editor:

I’d like to thank the scouts for the projects they have done around Surf City. They have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.

I’d like to suggest a job that I and many other seniors did for years but are no longer able to do: Start at the north end of town and try to get the trash and recycle cans that have taken off in the heavy winds lately back where they belong.

I must admit a selfish motivation on my part; I lost two recycle cans and two trash cans both this year and last. When they returned, they were no longer usable. What was really confusing to me was that the cans I discarded in 2017 had been attached to the holder in the same way for 25 years. Maybe they were better quality or the winds were not so bad. They did survive Sandy!

If this is too challenging for the scouts, and I realize that it may be, then maybe the mayor’s Spring letter can remind the seasonal residents to take the cans and holders inside when they leave for the season.

Hope the scouts have a prosperous New Year and are all able to achieve their individual goals!
