It’s a race to the official end of summer! Registration is still open for the annual LBI-Bayview Park Triathlon/Duathlon/Paratriathlon, scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16, in Brant Beach.

The triathlon – a ¼-mile bay swim, 10-mile bike ride and 3-mile run – takes place in the water off Bayview Park, across from the Long Beach Township municipal complex, and on the flat, fast local roads. The duathlon, meanwhile, consists of a 1½-mile run, 10-mile bike and 3-mile run, and also begins and ends at the park.

As Bayview Park Director Joni Bakum pointed out, the race is also a qualifier for paratriathletes, and she encourages individuals to sign up for this event.

Packet pickup is available the day before the race, from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the pavilion in Bayview Park. And, at 5 that evening, USAT Level II coach Tom Manzi will present a race day prep clinic. Learn more about Manzi at boltonendurance.com/about-us/coaches.

On Sunday, check-in, packet pickup and race day registration runs from 6 to 7 a.m., followed by a pre-race briefing at 7 a.m. The start horn sounds at 7:20 with waves based on the number of entrants.

The races are scored by DQ Events, which will present awards following the conclusion of the event. DQ will also give medals to the first 350 finishers, and the first 450 entries receive a T-shirt. At the end of last week, close to 300 competitors had signed up, and Bakum was optimistic that more individuals would register in the days leading up to the event.

Refreshments will be provided after the race, including pizza from Nardi’s Tavern.

The event benefits the Southern Regional High School Interact Club, members of which provide support throughout the race, as do the township police and beach patrol.

Bayview Park is located at 68th Street and Long Beach Boulevard.

For additional details, including cost, and to register, visit dqevents.com. The race is slated to run rain or shine, but weather updates will also be available on the DQ website.  —J.K.-H.
