Remember the Brave

May 24, 2017

To the Editor:

Memorial Day marks the traditional “unofficial” start of the summer season. For our many Ocean County residents and visitors that means fun at the beaches, boardwalks and other summer attractions.

However, we would ask everyone to join us this Memorial Day to remember those brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives for freedom while wearing the uniforms of the U.S. armed forces.

From the Revolutionary War through the Civil War, World War I and World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War and today’s ongoing War on Terror, our military forces have always fought with one goal in mind: freedom.

And the cost remains high. This year alone has seen the deaths of four servicemen on the frontlines in the Middle East. Their loss is a stark reminder that evil forces with the ultimate goal of our nation’s destruction still exist in this world.

So please, take a few minutes between the ballgames and barbecues to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that our families shall forever remain free.
