Lucia P. DeClerck celebrated her 102nd birthday on Jan. 25, in her home of one year, Mystic Meadows Rehab and Nursing Center in Little Egg Harbor. In attendance were many of her friends, residents, staff and administrators of Mystic Meadows.

DeClerck was born in Maui, Hawaii on Jan. 25, 1916. She moved from Maui, to Honolulu, to California and finally to New Jersey, where she lived in Stafford By The Bay in Manahawkin. She was able to live on her own until Christmas 2016, when she moved to Mystic Meadows Rehab and Nursing Center for rehabilitation services. She is doing great, according to community liaison Sara Rokowsky.

“She has outlived three husbands, three cardiologists and all of her childhood friends. She has made many new friends in New Jersey and became one of the major organizers for prayer and Mass services in her former apartment building,” said Rokowski.

“She is very proud that she still has all of her teeth, and at the age of 100, had her first dental filling. She has never been diagnosed with any type of cancer, still has her mental capabilities, and walked at least a mile a day until she was 101.

“She contributes her great health and mental stability to eating anything and everything she wants, having one daily sip of gin or other alcoholic beverage, and never smoking.”  —P.J.
