‘Sacred Place Postcard’

PARADISE ISLAND: This postcard, written by Brett Weiss of Boca Raton, Fla., to grandparents Joan and Harris Ross of Harvey Cedars, was created as a college assignment. A ‘Sacred Place Postcard,’ it tied into the study of Henry David Thoreau’s ‘Where I Lived, and What I Lived For’ in his book Walden. The assignment, says Weiss, ‘was simply to make college students step back from their stressful studies and consider a utopian place in their lives where they can escape.’ Weiss, as a former Harvey Cedars lifeguard, is pictured training for ocean rescues – one of a collage of photos on the front of the postcard.
