Sample Local Seafood at Feb. 10 Science Saturday

The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences is serving up some seafood! Stop by to sample the local fare at this weekend’s Science Saturday program, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in LBIF’s main building in Loveladies.

On Feb. 10, join Karter Larson from Viking Village and Larson Puskas Fisheries Partnership, and Ian Smith, a culinary teacher at the Ocean County Vocational Technical School, for an informative and tasty presentation on commercial fishing and cooking fresh seafood.

“Did you know that Viking Village in Barnegat Light is one of the East Coast’s most productive commercial fishing seaports?” asks Jillian Schratz, marketing and programs associate at the Foundation. “Join us for this bay to table conversation.

“Karter Larson will tell many entertaining tales while you learn how your favorite fish is harvested from the Atlantic Ocean. Chef Ian Smith will teach you how to prepare the fresh seafood you buy or catch with hands-on cooking demonstrations and delicious samples to enjoy.”

Science Saturday, now in its 12th season, invites experts to speak about pressing scientific, ecological and sustainability issues that directly affect the shore environment and community. Lectures will be held every Saturday through April 28, except for March 31.

Admission to the presentations – organized by the LBIF Science Committee – is free for Foundation members. A $5 donation per person is requested from all other attendees. No registration is required.

Breakfast treats and coffee are provided by Little Bite of Italy in Surf City.
