Santa of the Year

Jan 10, 2018

To the Editor:

I want to nominate Steve Steiner as LBI’s Santa Claus of the Year. Steve with the help of his elf, Al Parinello, has saved Christmas for LBI. After what has felt like an eternity of darkness, Christmas has returned to Surflight Theatre. The Island is grateful and has shown its appreciation with sold-out performances at the theater, even for New Year’s Eve.

The new version of “Home for the Holidays” was beyond superlatives. We saw the previous revision when Steve did it on the mainland about two years ago. That was memorable. This revision was breathtaking. The dance of the toy dolls was fabulous. For those who missed seeing it, it was “Nutcracker” meets “Fantasia.” The dance of the reindeer was a trip to Rockefeller Center with the Rockettes. I feel sorry for those who did not see “Home for the Holidays.” You missed something great in our community.

My only regret is that we will have to wait two years to see it again. I am sure that “Elf” will be good, but better than “Home for the Holidays”? I doubt it. But we are taking a season subscription with extras including a show by the New Millennial Jazz Band. My New Year’s advice for LBI: Buy a season’s subscription and avoid missing great entertainment right here at home.
