Score at the Shore Hoops Tourney on Slate at Southern Regional High School

The annual Score at the Shore basketball tournament is slated to begin this weekend at Southern Regional High School, and it will continue during the days following Christmas, all leading up to boys’ and girls’ championships next weekend.

The boys’ tourney gets underway Saturday, Dec. 22, with a quartet of first-round games at noon, 1:45 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. In the first game, seventh-seeded Mater Dei meets 10th-seeded Howell, followed by sixth-seeded Southern taking on 11th-seeded Atlantic Tech. The third game features fifth-seeded Wall against 12th-seeded Middle Township, and it is followed by the nightcap – eighth-seeded Mainland squaring off with ninth-seeded Asbury Park.

On Thursday, Dec. 27, all of the first-round winners will meet the tourney’s top four seeds – No. 1 Pleasantville, No. 2 St. Mary-Elizabeth, No. 3 Jackson Liberty and No. 4 Lenape – in games scheduled for noon, 1:45 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 29, four consolation-round games will be followed by the semifinals contests at 5 and 6:45 p.m. On Sunday, Dec. 30, the tournament commences with final consolation games, including the third-place contest at 5 p.m., and the championship clash at 6:45 p.m.

The girls’ tourney also begins Saturday, Dec. 22, with first-round matchups slated for 10 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. In the first game, top-seeded Mainland meets eighth-seeded Pleasantville, followed by the second game between fourth-seeded Middle Township and fifth-seeded Mater Dei. The third game features third-seeded Holmdel and sixth-seeded Southern, while second-seeded Lenape meets seventh-seeded Millville in the last game of the day.

On Wednesday, Dec. 26, the two consolation-round games and semifinals are scheduled for 10 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., before the girls’ tournament concludes on Friday, Dec. 28, with the final consolation contests at 10 and 11:45 a.m., followed by the third-place game at 1:30 p.m. and the championship at 3:15 p.m.

All boys games will be played in the school’s 9/10 gymnasium, while all girls games will be in the 11/12 gymnasium. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for seniors and students. —D.B.
