Scott Sarno, Robert Geddes Retain Leadership Positions on Barnegat Board of Education

Jan 31, 2018

Scott Sarno and Robert Geddes maintained their respective posts as Barnegat Board of Education president and vice president at a recent reorganization meeting.

Sarno had served on the board four years before returning to the nine-member group in 2014, while Geddes joined the board in 2015. Geddes and Maria Pereira, who won re-election last November, were sworn in to their second three-year terms while newcomer Doreen Continanza took the oath of office for her first term.

Sarno said the first order of business will be putting together the 2018-19 school budget.

“We have a new governor (Phil Murphy), so we need to find out how our state aid situation will stand,” he said.

Sarno said the board also needs to find a new district superintendent, since Karen Wood’s contract has not been renewed and expires June 30.

“We’ll need to have the new person hired during the spring,” he said.

The board will be holding regular monthly meetings on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the media center at Barnegat High School. —E.E.
