Second Deck Approved for New BH Eatery

Jun 14, 2017

By a 5-4 vote last week, the Beach Haven Land Use Board approved a second deck for Parker’s Garage and Oyster Saloon, which opened last month at the old site of the Boathouse at 116 Northwest Ave.

The establishment is owned by the The Black Whale Restaurant Group, which acquired the Boathouse in 2016. It will serve as both restaurant and event hall, adding to the area’s wedding venue options.

William Burris, one of partners, said the deck would cover 1,050 square feet. He said the applicants were not adding to their seating capacity of 296 allowed by the zoning ordinance.

“It’s mostly going to be a place where people can enjoy the sunset,” said Burris. “It will have an open-air bar.”

Other partners are Burris’ wife Linda, Bob and Gina Nugent and Eric and Melanie Magaziner. They are also owners of Black Whale Bar & Fish House, Mud City Crab House, Old Causeway Steak & Oyster House and Ship Bottom Shellfish.

Melanie Magaziner said architectural details are still being discussed.

“We were very pleased with the way the community came out to support us at the meeting,” she said. “The deck will offer a beautiful view and we’re glad we’ll be able to have it available.”

However, it won’t be available until next summer.

“We’re looking at beginning construction in September,” said William Burris. “We’re not going to disrupt summer business, which has been really great since we opened four weeks ago.”

“I think there’s a need for this in the Beach Haven waterfront area,” said Mayor Nancy Davis, who voted for the plan. “It’s not like they’re adding tables and chairs. It’s going to be a place where people can enjoy the view.”

Jim Kelly, the board president who voted against the application, declined to comment.
