Doughnuts are popping fresh off the assembly line at Shore Good Donuts’ newest location, in Manahawkin at 495 Route 72, in a building shared by Spirits Unlimited. It opened for business on Dec. 22.

Owners Todd Hunt and Rich Platt’s first venture into the doughnut field was with their Ship Bottom establishment, which debuted in 2011. Three years later, they opened another Shore Good Donuts establishment in Beach Haven.

The Manahawkin site is bigger than the other two, and unlike the Island locations, will be open year ’round. The owners said they have been eyeing it ever since it was the Blockbuster video store, more than five years ago. It later became a Sprint phone store before closing last year.

“We wanted to look for some different thing, kind of like a diner setup,” Hunt said, “with table tops and also stools along the counter where you can see the action that’s going on as the doughnuts are being made.”

Platt said  all their doughnuts, which have a vanilla-cake base, are made to order.

“They’re not sitting around all day,” he said. “You order what you want, and you get them fresh and warm.”

Platt said there are approximately 50 different toppings available for mixing and matching. Shore Good also has breakfast sandwiches, doughnut sandwiches and a specialty coffee bar featuring cappuccino, frappuccino and espresso drinks.

“We’ve had a good response since opening, and we’re glad we could open before Christmas,” said Hunt. “We like the location because people have to pass this way when going to shopping. So hopefully, they’ll include us in their shopping trips.”

Currently, hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The owners expect to expand hours into the spring and summer.
