Shores of Our Souls Author Speaking on Oct. 7

Kathryn Brown Ramsperger

Kathryn Brown Ramsperger will discuss and read excerpts from her debut novel, The Shores of Our Souls, on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Long Beach Island branch of the Ocean County Library in Surf City. Ramsperger said the novel takes the reader on a journey of discovery – blending the story-telling traditions of Southern literature with the intrigue of the developing world. It tells the story of two people from different cultures with one love and a world of conflict.

“Most of the novel was written on Long Beach Island, since I have a summer home in Surf City and it can be a nice quiet place to concentrate on writing,” she said. “I will also talk about the process of writing, and finding a publisher.”

She said the book tells the story of Qasim, an Arab Muslim U.N. official, fleeing family obligations in war – torn between Lebanon and Dianna, who’s escaping her rural Southern roots to become a researcher at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

“War is one of the most powerful backdrops for any love story,” said Ramsperger, a journalist who once headed the publication department for the American Red Cross. “Love, on the other hand, is personal, ethereal, and possesses its own power to change the world.”

Copies of The Shores of Our Souls will be available for purchase. To register, call the branch at 609-494-2480. E.E.
