Could a CPR primer be more accessible to the public than right on the street in Barnegat Light? Last Sunday, passersby got the chance to learn hands-on outside the firehall at 10th Street and Central Avenue. The Barnegat Light Volunteer Fire Co. and Barnegat Light First Aid Squad invite everyone who missed that opportunity to “Learn to Save a Life” this Sunday, Aug. 5. The red mats, trained personnel and equipment will be there during the day.

“We will be doing this throughout the summer,” said First Aid Squad Capt. Bob Selfridge.

As it turns out, the streetside setup last week did go a long way toward possibly saving one life or more someday.

“A lot of people didn’t even know where to check for pulses,” Selfridge said.

Stephanie Rebeck and Laura Patterson were among the first aid squad members taking the lifesaving info to the public.

“We’re trying to increase our presence in the community,” Selfridge said. —M.S.
