Andy Kim has officially won the election for the 3rd Congressional District, and the New Jersey Sierra Club is enthusiastic about the incoming legislator due to his solid record on the environment. Kim, a Democrat and former Obama aide, defeated incumbent Republican Congressman Tom MacArthur in a close race that came to a conclusion more than a week after Election Day.

“Andy Kim’s win for Congress is a win for the environment,” said Jeff Tittel, director of the New Jersey Sierra Club. “As a congressman, Kim will support policies that combat climate change, protect our natural resources, and encourage energy efficiency at a state and national level.

“Congressman MacArthur has voted with the Trump administration on rolling back important protections that keep our air and water clean,” he added. “We are glad Andy Kim will fill MacArthur’s seat because we know Andy will work to become District 3’s environmental champion.”

MacArthur, who has served the 3rd District since 2015, has one of the worst environmental records in the state, according to his 29 percent rating on the League of Conservation Voters’ environmental scorecard.

As Tittel remarked, “New Jersey now has a fighter in Congress who will stand up to Donald Trump’s attack on our clean air, clean water, our oceans and our beaches.” —J.K.-H.
