So Sad

Jun 14, 2017

To The Editor:

I found the Commentary column with the heading that began “Democracy Smolders ...”  (5/10) very amusing. While much of the story line was somewhat inaccurate, it was just part of the current movement to undermine this president and our government. In the following weeks, others wrote in, defending this president and giving him a chance to straighten out the catastrophe that the country went through the past eight years.

There is an old saying that if you put a frog in a pot of warm water and slowly raise the flame until the frog is cooked, the frog doesn’t realize it until it’s too late. That is what was happening to this country as a whole over the past eight years. After the disastrous Obamacare was passed in 2010 by a Democratic-controlled Senate, House and president, the people said that was enough. Every election after that the people spoke out with their votes to save their country (the frog).

While many people don’t like Mr. Trump or feel that he should be president, it doesn’t matter. Anyone who ran against the Democratic Party would have won. Seven months after the election results, Queen Hillary is still blaming everyone for her loss and non-coronation.

Look at what is going on in universities today with the prohibition of free speech and threats about the destruction of university buildings unless deans kowtow to certain demands. Graduates turn their backs on speakers they don’t like at their commencements. There have been so many marches against Mr. Trump in six months, more than there have been in the past 50 years.

If you ask anyone who marches “why are you doing this?” they will give you an unlikely answer such as “it’s immigration,” “it’s free tuition,” “it’s a tax return,” “it’s health care.” Ask them a second question, to explain it, and they just repeat the first answer. So sad.
