Sock Hop Party Supports Kiwanis ‘Happy Feet’ Drive

Sep 13, 2017

The Kiwanis Club of LBI/Manahawkin  is sponsoring its second annual sock hop party in support of its “Happy Feet” project. The event will be held at the Ship Bottom Firehouse on Friday, Sept. 29, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Faith Dixon, project coordinator, reported that last year, the inaugural Happy Feet drive resulted in more than 3,500 pairs of socks being collected and donated to help children in need, homeless veterans and victims of sexual abuse. A new drive began in July and will continue until Dec. 3.

“Socks are often not included in clothing drives, but a warm pair of new socks is a highly sought-after item,” said Dixon. “Clean socks prevent many common ailments, reduce bacteria and medical problems as well as warming feet. The goal this year is to collect 6,000 pairs of socks to be distributed to children in need, homeless, homeless veterans, active military, victims of domestic abuse and Hope for Liberia. The Kiwanis family is devoted to improving the lives of children and the communities they live in.”

She said the party will feature DJ Mario,  dancing, food, beer, wine and light beverages. There will be games, contests and prizes.

“People are welcome to dress up in their ’50s outfits,” said Dixon.

Tickets are $20 plus a pair of new socks for the drive. Children 18 and younger are admitted free when bringing a new pair of socks.

Call Dixon (609-405-2834) or Pat Brown (609-618-1799) for more information.

For those who aren’t able to attend, monetary donations are also welcome. Checks can be made payable to Kiwanis LBI, P.O. Box 174, Ship Bottom, N.J. 08008.
