‘Soldiers Without Guns’ Presentation Runs Nov. 27

On Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 1 p.m. the branch will host a program titled “Soldiers Without Guns: Women Defense Workers in WWII.” This presentation by historical interpreter Stacy Flora Roth features a character monologue, a display of period artifacts and ephemera, and a discussion of women’s participation on the home front. Audience members are invited to share memories, memorabilia, and personal and family stories of the Second World War.

The art work of Jill DeFelice is on display through November. Primarily a self-taught artist, she has dabbled in acrylics, gouache, and bronze sculpture but paints mainly in oils. She first started painting in 2001 with Russian Impressionist Valery Gueraskevich.

Also on display are photographs by Bette Mackie Pernal and Tom Pernal, reflecting a love for nature, coastal birds and landscapes.

Monday afternoon movies lineup continues. All movies begin at 1.

The knit and crochet group meets on Saturday, Nov. 24 and Dec. 8, at 1 p.m. All skill levels are welcome.

The adult writer’s group gets together Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. Participants can hone their craft with like-minded writers. Published and unpublished writers in any genre are welcome.

Read anything interesting lately? Share it with someone at the next book café, on Dec. 4, at 7 p.m.

A storytime with Santa is planned Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 10:30 a.m. Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to support the Friends of the Barnegat Library by purchasing a photo of their child with Santa for $5.

The documentary “Won’t you Be My Neighbor” will be shown on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. The film paints a portrait of the life and work of children’s entertainer Fred Rogers, star of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” A former minister, Rogers creatively communicated themes of empathy and acceptance.

Teen drop-in gaming nights are planned Wednesdays beginning at 6. Electronic, card and board games are available.

All branches close at 5 p.m. Nov. 21 and will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22, for Thanksgiving Day.
