Southern Ocean Medical Center Accredited for CT Imaging, Nuclear Medicine

Jul 17, 2014

Southern Ocean Medical Center has been awarded three-year terms of accreditation in the areas of CT Imaging and Nuclear Medicine as the result of surveys by the American College of Radiology.

The ACR is a national organization that awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

The Imaging Services department at Southern Ocean Medical Center provides a variety of services with convenient hours, including x-ray, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and interventional radiology. Additionally, for women, services include digital mammography, bone density, ultrasound and stereotactic biopsy.

“ACR accreditation demonstrates Southern Ocean Medical Center’s commitment to quality patient care,” said Alicia Daniels, M.D., department chair of radiology at SOMC.

“Each survey is a long and comprehensive process to go through. It reinforces that patients can have a high level of confidence in knowing that our staff delivers exceptional clinical care with a personal, caring touch.”
