Sow the Seeds of Spring

Jan 09, 2019

Ready to anticipate spring? The Community Garden Network of Ocean County offers a workshop on crop planning, seed starting and winter sowing. The meeting will be held on Jan. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ocean County Rutgers Cooperative Extension Agricultural Center, 1623 Whitesville Road, Toms River.

Jess Sinkhorn from Fulfill Foodbank’s community garden will discuss crop planning and starting seeds. Educator Ellen Silverman will lead a take-home project on winter seed sowing using recycled clear plastic clamshell containers.

Participants can bring their own clamshell containers and their favorite seeds, but that is not required.
Anyone with questions may call Susan at 732-349-1246.

The network connects people and gardens. The group was formed in May 2018 and is a network for community gardens, gardeners and food pantries, working in conjunction with Ocean and Monmouth counties.

At the meeting, attendees can learn more about the group and upcoming workshops.  —M.S.
