St. Francis Community Center Hosts Family Health and Safety Fair April 20

St. Francis Community Center is celebrating wellness with its 42nd annual Family Health and Safety Fair this Friday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the community center gym. Health screenings, educational resources, giveaways and refreshments will be available. Admission is free.

Medical professionals will be at the fair to conduct free screenings for the following: vision, blood pressure, osteoporosis, cholesterol, blood sugar, hearing, skin and dental. Information will be available on senior services, family services, health care, alternative medicine, finances, fitness, counseling and more.

According to Lori Dudek, St. Francis communications coordinator, Southern Ocean Medical Center “will present ‘How Healthy is Your Colon,’ and you will be able to take a walk through a 12-foot colon.”

Meanwhile, the Long Beach Township Police Department will be in attendance with a Project Medicine Drop box for disposal of unwanted medication.

There will be also be activities for preschool children, including vision screening, a bike raffle, giveaways and a 10:30 a.m. exercise session with Meridian’s hopscotch.

And, new for 2018, the Ocean County Department of Solid Waste Management will be on site to facilitate residential document shredding, for residents only. In order to conserve truck space, participants are limited to six boxes or bags of documents. Business and commercial documents will not be accepted. Other disallowed items include: X-rays, CDs, floppy disks, microfilm and file folders.

St. Francis Community Center, the Long Beach Island Health Department and Southern Ocean Medical Center are sponsoring this year’s Family Health and Safety Fair.

The community center is located at 4700 Long Beach Blvd. in Brant Beach.
