As summer approaches, St. Francis of Assisi Parish is once again inviting all local lifeguards to an ecumenical blessing ceremony at the St. Francis Aquatic Center in Brant Beach. The 11th annual Blessing of the Lifeguards will be held at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 19.

Any Long Beach Island or mainland guard – whether ocean, bay, lake or pool – is welcome to attend the blessing, regardless of religious affiliation.

“If you are not a lifeguard, we welcome you to also join us in this wonderful tradition of blessing and wishing all of our lifeguards a safe summer season on LBI and the mainland,” said Lori Dudek, communication coordinator for the St. Francis Parish and Community Center.

The Long Beach Township Beach Patrol’s swim tests, as well as Lifeguard in Training and Beginning Lifeguard in Training, are scheduled for immediately after the ceremony, at 5 p.m.

The St. Francis Aquatic Center is located at 4700 Long Beach Blvd. in Brant Beach. For more information, call the St. Francis Community Center at 609-494-8813. —J.K.H.
