St. Francis Pool Should Reopen Wednesday After Burst Pipe

Jan 10, 2018

The recent stretch of bitter cold temperatures resulted in a broken pipe at the indoor pool at the St. Francis Community Center in Brant Beach, but the pipe has been repaired, and the pool is expected to reopen this Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Recreation Director Mike Thompson said the pipe burst on Sunday, and the pool lost a lot of water. The problem was observed by lifeguards who had headed in for work.

A plumber fixed the pipe that same day, and the pool was refilled Sunday night into Monday.

Currently, the pool water is being heated. “It takes some time to heat up 130,000 gallons,” Thompson remarked. But he anticipates the pool should be ready for aquatic guests on Wednesday.

Pool hours are 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 609-494-8861 or visit

The pool is located at 4700 Long Beach Blvd. in Brant Beach.  —J.K.-H.
