Three Southern Regional alumni have recently been in the news for college athletic achievements.

Frank Molinaro, the 2012 NCAA national wrestling champion at 149 pounds, will be joining the coaching staff at Rutgers University as an assistant coach in the fall.

April Smith, from William Patterson University, was named to the 10-member Women’s Basketball Coaches Association 2011-12 Division III All American Team. Smith averaged 21.3 points, 12.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. She was eighth in scoring and fourth in field goal percentage (.587) in all of Division III this season. She finished her career ranked fourth in career points at William Patterson University.

Alex Spark, junior midfielder for The College of New Jersey women’s lacrosse team, was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference’s Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week (April 4-14) after scoring 16 goals and adding five ground balls. She had six goals and two assists vs. Montclair State to help TCNJ Lions clinch the regular season championship.

The SRHS boys golf team won the 2012 Ocean County Tournament Title on April 17 at Sea Oaks Country Club in Little Egg Harbor. Seventeen schools and 85 golfers from across the county competed. The boys’ team score of 345 was comprised of scores from seniors Connor Devaney (80) and Brennan Connolly (86), freshman Chase Clark (88) and junior Mike Chiodi (91).

SRHS senior girls lacrosse player Alexa Comfort scored her 200th career goal in the team’s game on April 18 at Brick Memorial.

Eight members of the school Key Club attended the 66th Annual New Jersey District of Key Club International Convention.

Through officer training, monthly reports to district and state leaders, and other international requirements, the club won seven awards: senior Joe Tront (Waretown), Distinguished President Award; Junior Lauren Peirson (Manahawkin), Distinguished Vice President Award; sophomore Kylie Shaffery (Manahawkin) earned three awards – Distinguished Secretary Award, Golden Member Award, 3rd Place Talent Competition. In addition, the club won the prestigious Big 10 Award for service and organization and the Early Dues Award for its 118 members.
