Standout Teachers

Jun 07, 2017

To the Editor:

Dedicated, hardworking, professional and compassionate are just a few of the words I would use to describe Ocean County’s Teachers of the Year.

It was truly a privilege to attend the Ocean County Teacher of the Year recognition breakfast on May 26, sponsored by The Ocean First Foundation and hosted by the Ocean County Association of School Administrators. These 110 individuals representing elementary, middle and high schools across the county were well deserving of the recognition bestowed upon them. Each one brings something special and unique to the profession. For so many of those honored, becoming a teacher was fulfilling a lifelong dream. Many were inspired to become a teacher by a teacher they had growing up.

Teaching, while an extremely rewarding profession, is now a difficult one. Teachers meet more challenges now than ever before. The role has changed dramatically, but the goal is still the same – to nurture, educate and help open the minds of children to the endless possibilities that await them.

As a lifelong educator, I extend my gratitude to all those honored this year and in past years. Your love for teaching goes beyond the four walls of the classroom. You have the ability to open doors, to help shape the future, and you do it with patience, care and pride. My colleagues and I on the Board of Freeholders wish to congratulate all the Ocean County Teachers of the Year for a job well done.

Joseph H. Vicari, freeholder director
