Students Invited to Brain Games Jan. 15 at LBI Library in Surf City

Jan 08, 2018

The Long Beach Island branch of the Ocean County Library holds an intergenerational Brain Games event in Surf City on Monday, Jan. 15, beginning at 1 p.m.

Normally, Brain Games is held on the first Monday of the month at 1 in January and February, and beginning in March, on the first and third Mondays. In the program sponsored by the Friends of the Island Library, older adults are invited to participate in numerous mental exercises designed to keep their minds sharp. Exercises include memory, spatial perception, numbers, puzzles, logical thinking, communication and language and more.

“Since the schools are closed for Martin Luther King Day but the library is open, we invite the middle schoolers and teens, as well as their parents and grandparents, to join us for a special afternoon of fun, challenging exercises,” said Judy Bouton, president of the Friends. “This is our sixth year of this event, and Cassie Runkel-Mechler, our children’s librarian, and I are planning some special interactive games.”

She said the special event may give seniors who haven’t yet participated an opportunity to come and experience Brain Games.

“It is held in a friendly, informal atmosphere,” Bouton said. “There is a time for socialization and refreshments before the games begin.”
