“It is near impossible to contain the enormity of the LBI Summer Soirée in a single set of words,” said a thank-you message for the event at The Sea Shell Resort & Beach Club on Aug. 10 that raised $104,176 for David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation.

Although the money will help families affected by a cancer diagnosis, the caring that has been shown at the fundraisers is just as valuable, noted foundation co-founder/CEO David Caldarella.

“It has always been about the personal connection ... I can rattle off 100 stories from Friday night and not one of them has anything to do with a dollar amount,” Caldarella said.

The foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that raises funds to provide financial assistance, wellness services and hope to affected families.

The Summer Soirée was made possible by presenting sponsor D. Finelli Construction, the Jordan family, the Hughes family and all the attendees and supporters.

“If you were there, you know what it was about – the power of hope and the power of sharing your love. We were so blessed to be a part of such an amazing night,” expressed Dave Finelli, of D. Finelli Construction.

Said Danielle Corso, foundation executive director, “The astounding total of $104,176.90, over half of which had been directed to families in need prior to Aug. 10, solidified the Soirée as our largest event in DDBCF history.

“The generosity of our guests surpassed our goal of raising $50,000 in one evening, allowing us to immediately answer 17 grant applications sitting on David’s desk and bringing us that much closer to $1 million in giving by the close of 2018.”

“You can’t buy hope, but a million dollars equals a whole lot of comfort,” remarked Carmen Malatino, foundation president.

The “Boardwalk Nights” upscale summer cocktail party (formerly Island Gala) featured live boardwalk games, hors d’oeuvres, a buffet, cocktails with three-hour top-shelf open bar, an auction and live music with Ted Hammock and Jason Booth at the Tiki Bar, and LOVE 77 on the ballroom dance floor. Tickets were $250 per person.  —M.S.
