There are still more than a few Doubting Thomas types who think Beach Haven’s Surflight Theatre won’t open, as promised, this June, but preparations are moving forward as planned.

As has been reported in The SandPaper, New York City producer Al Parinello officially closed on his purchase of the 0.61-acre theater complex from TD Bank at the end of April. His producing artistic director, Steve Steiner, has completed auditions for the troupe that will perform the 2017 season and obtained the rights for the scheduled musicals. Steiner’s staff is already selling tickets for the season’s main stage and children’s theater shows as well as for its concert series. Professional cleaning and remediation personnel have been busy making the theater habitable.

But, like Thomas in the Bible, several people have told this reporter they just don’t believe the words of others that the theater and the adjacent Show Place Ice Cream Parlour will be open for business on Friday, June 23. They have to see it for themselves.

They, and everybody else, will get that opportunity on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28 when Surflight will hold an open house from noon to 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served on the patio, where guests will have the opportunity to meet the Surflight staff, including Parinello and Steiner, and to ask any questions they might have. Guests will also have the opportunity to visit the theater’s lobby and theater auditorium to see first hand the progress that has been made.

The open house is free and open to all members of the public.

According to Surflight Press Director Gail Anderson, “Plans to reopen Surflight Theatre and Show Place Ice Cream Parlour are right on track.” —R.M.
