Talking to Russians

Mar 14, 2018

To the Editor:

In reply to John Imperiale’s SpeakEasy column last week (“Feeling Fearful Again, 50 Years After Turbulent 1968”):

According to Reuters, President Barack Obama was caught on camera in 2012 assuring outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he would have “more flexibility” to deal with contentious issues like missile defense after the U.S. presidential election.

According to a report on March, 26, 2012, Obama, during talks in Seoul, urged Moscow to give him “space” until after the November ballot, and Medvedev said he would relay the message to incoming Russian President Vladimir Putin.
