Taylor Avenue Bayfront Undergoing Improvements

May 10, 2017

By next month, Beach Haven looks to unveil a new-look Taylor Avenue Park as a passive recreation area. At its meeting on May 8, the borough council awarded a $79,000 contract to Curbcon Inc., Barnegat Township, for sidewalk and curb installation at the new facility.

Acting Borough Manager Sherry Mason said the project’s total cost would be $150,000. Some of the funds will come from the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce for use of the field during previous Chowderfests.

“That would help off-set some of the costs,” said Mason.

She said the park’s centerpiece will be a new pavilion, covering approximately 1,000 square feet. She said Jetty, the local surfing and skate apparel company, will be supplying materials and volunteers to construct the facility.

“The pavilion is going to be big enough where people could conduct classes,” said  Mayor Nancy Taggart Davis. “It could be used for weddings and other special events. People will also get a great view of the sunset.”

Also at the meeting, the council adopted an ordinance for a Dock Road improvement project between Bay and West avenues, which includes milling, paving and striping as well as curbing, sidewalk, gutter and drainage enhancements. The project costs $375,000, of which $95,000 will be bonded.

Mason said the project is expected to go out to bid in the summer with work beginning in the fall.

“We’re looking to get some reimbursement from the state Department of Transportation,” she said. E.E.
